Re: OST-039: The end of the beginning....

Looks fantastic and thank you for the port numbers!

Did the 3 angle valve job change the flow numbers, specifically at low lifts?

Re: Turbo vs NA

I prefer NA to Turbo for autocross. The "response" of an NA allows me to drive on the limit much easier, with more confidence, and with more precise control. Sometimes I don't want the full power the car can make - I want to feather in the throttle to keep traction on the rear wheels and a...

Re: The 50MPG Beams AE86 Build

Surely running such a low diff ratio (3.2:1) on a 3s with relatively low torque would adversely effect fuel economy as the engine would be constantly "loaded" up??? Load is good for fuel economy - as long as you don't cross into open loop. This is why hypermilers use a technique called &q...

Re: The 50MPG Beams AE86 Build

Riddleyo- you can't get 50mpg out of a car and engine rates for 30mpg, no matter how you drive. First you build it to be able to sip on fuel and not chug it. Then you worry about keeping your foot out of it. Aero doesn't play as much of a role, since I'm not designing an entirely new vehicle. I'll ...

Here is what my gas tank parts looked like when I got them from the junkyard: http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n534/riddleyo/AE86/gastank.jpg Now I assembled my fuel bracket with AN fittings to my fuel tank. Re: Riddleyo's 1986 GTS 20V

Here is the fuel pump bracket from the junkyard that I set out to restore. It has rusty lines full of pinholes. http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n534/riddleyo/AE86/20141216_113606.jpg So I cut off the old rusty lines and drilled out where they used to be attached to the bracket body. Thanks guys. Nice work man! I haven't updated mine in a while but i am also in the process of spraying the interior plastics. I love SEM but ive noticed it scratches easy so ive also sprayed my pieces with a low lusted SEM clear that seems to do the job. Just a heads up. Looks great!!! I'm not sure ...

Re: Riddleyo's 1986 GTS 20V

Over the summer I used a harbor freight soda blaster to clean my wheels. I used baking soda to strip them as it is non-toxic and washes away with water - meaning no sand in the beads. The previous owner painted them baby blue as you can see on page 1. http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n534/riddley...

Benefits of living in the country...

Look at the bright side, I have a sparkling fresh clean interior that smells like flowers now. After 28 years, there is a lot of gunk that builds up in your dash vents and under your carpet

Re: Mice in car after 1.5yrs stored, what should I do

I have battled mice in my AE86 - you can find my journey in my build thread. Basically, they nested behind the dash, under the carpet, behind plastic panels, and under the back seat. The chewed threw my seat foam, made nests everywhere, wreaked havoc on the wiring, and **** everywhere. My car stunk ...

Nice build and ideas so far. The way to hit 50mpg is through driving technique and aerodynamics. All other stuff such as flywheel weight are relatively small peanuts.

You aren't kidding about that curve - it is pretty darn difficult. I'm not sure how I would have covered the dash if my material had no stretch. You have a tough job ahead of you, I sense some "wrinkles" in your plan - so good luck! Thanks for the tip for the vinyl, I'll go try that out an...

Mice

My car has begun to reek of mice crap since it sits out in the countryside, so I stripped out the interior in search of mice. On top of that, the previous owner miswired the wiper and HVAC blower circuits during the engine swap, so I set out to fix those. Found several mice nests - they have been us...
