Re: My Alternator Test: opinions requested.
Yesterday, in addition to the "big 3", I added a 4 gauge wire from the alternator bracket bolt (top bolt) to the passenger inner fender. During my drive in this morning, the amps seem to have decreased. I saw it dip as low as .9 amps. This is a brand new optima yellow top battery I install...

Re: Need help 4age not getting fuel
check your fuel pump. It could also not be working. try to listen for a sound in the back when you switch the key to 'on', or you can check the connection with a volt meter. the connection to the pump starts at the circuit open relay (COR). while you're there, check the COR. IIRC the live for that i...

Re: Need help... T50 leaking oil from bell housing
the seal itself is like a rubber disc with a membrane in the middle. It does not require a sealant. the gasket you can use your judgement on. some use sealant like RTV grey, some don't. As long as you torque the 4 bolts down to what the FSM says and the old gasket is completely removed, then you sho...

Re: 20v clutch is there a substitute
but what is the difference will it break or will they hold up well with the 20vis it just a temporary substitute or is it something I can actually use for the 20v and keep it there for a while? check the specs of the clutch, they usually have a rating in terms of how much horsepower it can hold. If...

Re: Someone tried to break into my car.
In the years I've had the alarm installed and the locks shaved, I do not recall ever needing to crawl in through the back, even when my battery recently went kaput. I had even considered that the actuators would get stuck, but it never happened.

IIRC, there is both a gasket and a seal. The bearing retainer shaft houses the seal. It also has the gasket behind it that is installed before you bolt it on. the pic below is not a T50 (it is a T40), but it is the same setup. I think the retainer is a little more square at the base. you don't need ...

Re: Someone tried to break into my car.
Sorry to hear that this happened. I personally have keyless entry, so I felt that the locks were not needed. I dunno what you have, coupe or hatchback, but I shaved off the locks, painted them over and have a single solex lock in the hatch in case my keyless doesn't work or the battery dies. I can c...

My Alternator Test: opinions requested.
Hello all, I noticed that my alternator was doing some strange things (I have an analog voltmeter and the needle was doing a lot of dipping during load, signal and wipers especially) so I installed another (not new, but fresher) one. The voltmeter needle was steadier after that, so off I went. Soon ...

Re: 8.8 conversion info
haven't seen that thread in a very long time, but I presume that the same principal applies to one of the methods of swapping in a supra rear end. take the corolla bracket measurements, cut them off. cut off the 8.8 brackets and discard. make the corolla bracket measurements on the 8.8, weld on the ...

Re: The cable going from the battery neg to the ground: 4 ga
8 gauge sounds about right for the grounds that go from battery to body and firewall to head. Instead of buying a replacement toyota ground, I made my own with Automotive, stereo amplifier power wire, and copper connectors. They had 2 gauge on sale, so I got 5 ft, the connectors, shrink tubing, and...

The Walk of Shame
There comes a time in every Corolla owner's life when things aren't always unicorns and rainbows. Remember that time you drove into a sunset, sunglasses on, windows rolled down, listening to your favorite music such as 'Karma Chameleon' by the Culture Club? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEj93paUdh4...

Re: Turtle vs. The W-58
I could not confirm that it was a Rhett Bellhousing, but it looked like one. I think that it can be had new for $450 (shipped or unshipped overseas, i don't know), but I waited for someone who stopped their project and put it up for sale. I think I negotiated it down to $300 or $350 shipped in the U...

Suggestion: please add a DIY section.
Though there weren't very many on the old forum, would be nice to have so that the good DIY articles don't eventually get shuffled into the General Tech Talk section, which gets new posts often.
