Re: AE86 ride height adjustment

I'd say get to an alignment place that can do corner-weighting, and set it up with you in the car. Especially if you plan on actually driving the car in any timed events. That's the point of adjustable spring height, to perfect the balance of the car for racing applications. "stance, yo" i...

I'll try to get a picture later today. I talked with QA1, and these particular shocks are an older model, Proma Star. they are rebuildable, and re-valveable, and I'll be putting new shock oil in as well.

This is not a cup holder for drinks, this is a molded little plastic insert that fits into the handle where you pull the door closed.

rear shock bushing

So, I've got some QA1 coilovers on the rear, and one of them is blown. Getting that taken care of, as they're rebuildable with a couple o-rings and seals, and new oil; no problem. These have been on the car since I got it many moons ago (2006-ish?) and I've not had to do much. Now, I'm in the proces...

Re: SR5 No crank

I haven't taken off my SR5 fuel pump, but I think I can whip it off of my spare engine when I get home from work to see how it feels. If I remember from other ones on other cars, though, they can be pretty tough to move by hand. The only thing I can think of is to make SURE that you have it on the p...

Re: Fuel Line help

I don't remember the charcoal cannister (part of the EVAP system) even having threads, just hoses and clamps. there is no pressurized fuel, only fuel vapor in the evap line, at least there shouldn't be. Basically, as the fuel sloshes around and gets agitated in the tank, and the return line puts som...

Re: Need Some Advice for ball bearings??

make sure the surface of the axle housing is clean, as well as the outside of the bearing. if it's been sitting for a length of time, you may get small rust deposits on metal surfaces, which can interfere with the insertion of the axle. a wire brush and/or some emery cloth are easy ways to make sure...

Re: AE86 SR5 Rear End?

The SR5 rear axle is more the adequate for a stock 4AGE. The SR-5 axle [S series 6.38 ring gear] will have a 3.9 ratio or a 4.10 axle ratio. The axle is probably the 4.10 since the original car was an automatic. This ratio, actually better suits the power band of the 4AGE engine. Dave W i completel...

wouldn't you do the same thing? I think the point is to have the switch on, battery unplugged, with the lights in the fullly opened position. so you would turn on the switch, it would turn on the lights but close the lids. then unplug the battery. Then turn the knobs and set the rod to the proper po...

I'd verify this, because I'm not at home and don't have my books: 1: I think it's small, like 9-10 lb-ft. 2: with "good" gaskets, no. but if you really really want to, a very thin amount in the 'corners' where the camshaft sticks out. 4: I use 0W-30 or 5W30 amsoil synthetic since break-in....

Re: AE86 a little too warm

how far down in the radiator is the coolant? it should be at least up to the nozzle that goes to the overflow tank. If it's not, you might have an air pocket in the coolant system, which can also cause inaccurate temp readings. But I'd say first stop is a thermostat check. they're relatively cheap, ...

Re: Engine noise, please help, video link

isn't the vvt actuated by oil pressure? perhaps something's wrong with the pulley's metering mechanism, causing it to make the noise when it's below a certain psi, which can be related to rpm. I can see that hurting performance for sure. I don't think it will fly apart and break something, but you'l...

Re: Can I use the SR5 dash harness?

I think the plugs might be the same between ECU's, but the wires are definitely not. The 4AGE is injected, and needs all sorts of sensor inputs to give the proper output; the 4AC in the SR5 has a carb, and needs very minimal inputs and outputs. I do not know this with 100% certainty, but it's been t...

I feel that with Time Attack, and the HP numbers you're shooting for, the original rear diff/axles do not have the strength to hold up to the torque you'll be putting through them. There are usually some chicanes and other places that if you're driving competitively and hard, and transitioning from ...

do you have all three fusible links in the positive battery terminal? The 60A and 30A are both part of the ign switch circuit. Is your car manual, or automatic? With manual, the clutch start switch ties ground to the starter relay; with an automatic, the neutral safety switch does similar. manual cl...

I would think the same wires should work, because the distributor is moved from the back of the camshaft to the front of the camshaft. the only thing that might be different length would be the "coil" wire, depending on where it's sitting. At least , that's my thought. looks pretty symmetr...

a properly done main hoop needs to be right where the B pillar sits. Is this for show? if so, just mod the storebought cage and hide the feet under the carpet.. If it's for actual safety use, have a real one fabricated.
