Re: CloudStrife's AE88

You drive the car yet with those parts? Im curious about what appears to be the bgrs rear 4.5k springs - should be a decent match for the trd shocks. Fwiw I tried those shocks with swift 6k springs and trd 5.1k previously. I felt the car was noticeably under damped with the 6k springs. The 5.1k's we...

Two versions of the 4-1 though; early ones didnt have heatshield mounts, and it appears the O2 flange is clocked different also.

Re: OMG TRD 16v TRD HEADERS

I think its real. Collector looks correct (i.e. way better than obx). Good deal if so.

Edit: O2 flange is clocked 90* compared to mine, but i have an early version without the heatshield brackets.

Re: I think I broke my AE86

The 'milky things' under oil cap was prob just condensation from moisture in the crankcase. Not uncommon to see in cool weather. (You also may see it in the valve cover breather.) When the engine reached temp it returned to the sump.

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion

The idea of after market tie rods correcting bump steer, more specifically the spacers that go between the rod ends and knuckle, is a bit of a gimmick on an ae86. Its because of the 86's spindle/steering knuckle layout... if one uses an rca, the control arm and tie rod are spaced down equally to hel...

Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

Those are very interesting indeed. Good to know since they are a direct swap for my setup - damn near perfect dimensions. Its too bad they dont offer any lower spring rates. Lowest main/secondary rate is 6.2k. I agree about the flexibilty of added shock height adjustment with off the shelf coilovers...

Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

Its been around a year since did the calcs and bought the parts. Just peaked at a dual spring rate chart again and your right about the 2.2k'ish rate. I used an 11" main spring with 7" of travel. Its a tall stack height altogether... Fwiw I use 14x6 +13 wheels w/ 195/60 tires, and i had to...

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion

Think about the housing (part thats fixed to x member). Aw11 is 5/8" longer than ae86. That extra housing length all ends up on passenger side when installed on ae86, so its off centered. The inner tie rods limit the racks travel by contacting the housing. Think about it: Your choices with the ...

Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

Good question. As i understand it, generally speaking, 'helper' springs are there to hold main springs in place at, or near full droop (if needed). Thats their only purpose really since they have virtually no spring rate. Otoh, 'tender' springs look similar, but they are available in different sprin...

Just refreshed my setup with some changes. Converted to coilover up front with swift 3.5k main springs and 6k tenders. Custom 2.8k rear springs from ajps. Also added 10 mm spring spacer on LR only to help get rid the infamous 'lean'. (Ghetto corner balance haha.) Using standard long bilstein shocks...

Re: Help with EGR delete

Fwiw in cool/cold weather it should idle around 2-2.5k rpm on cold start, so thats good. (Fwiw, with iacv deleted idle is around 600 rpm on cold start... engine will stall unless throttle is manually raised until engine warms.) Definitely get that iacv working. Its so nice not having to hold the thr...

Re: Help with EGR delete

Are you using the charcoal canister? Where are the vacuum lines from it going? From what i can see with the vacuum lines it looks like it should run, and at least idle warm. When the engine starts cold what is the idle rpm? Also, fwiw on the throttle body barbs... Iirc the looped 2 are for egr, yell...

Top one is for egr and bottom one is for charcoal canister/evap.

Just leave them as is if not using the egr or evap systems. (Nothing will go in the engine, and nothing will come out through the openings from the broken hose barbs, aka nipples...fwiw.)

Using the white clips that connect the wire to the lever is vital. They can only be installed one way though because there are divots the in the plastic wire sheeth that the clips hold onto. Remove the cables. Use 3-in-1, wd40, etc, and work it between the metal wire and plastic that covers until plastic slides easy on the wire. When installin make sure the plastic wire covers are clipped in at the right points in relation to the flapper doors and hvac control levers on center console (...

My experience with the espelirs was dissapointing. *Disclaimer: i bought a used set so its possible they were worn out. Fwiw they werent cut and the condition of the appearance was fair.* Anyhoo, the drop ended up being about 1.8" (possibly more) from stock. The sprng rates were 3/2.8k f/r. A l...

WTB an 'OG' 18mm whiteline rear sway bar for ae86 (version 1!).

For reference: version 1 is 18mm with a round half moon shape around diff, and version 2 - what whiteline currently sells - is 20mm with a straight/angled shape around diff.

Get at me ;) 8-)

Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

Exactly. Their original front 'coilovers' are oem ae86 strut casings that are shortened 40 mm and converted to accept coilover springs. (After a while they started adding a welded on spindle brace too.) Their new advanced front coilovers mirror all the dimensions as the original, but with ALL NEW PA...

Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

Imo, custom is always best. Its because the setup can be tailored for the car's intended use. As far as off the shelf coilovers go... on paper it sounds like fortune auto and shockworks are the best rounded. Both claim ae86 specific tuning. Shockworks even claims model specific road tuning, and has ...

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion

^exactly. Equal steering from center (lock-to-lock) when using an aw11 rack in an ae86 equates to different overall tie rod lengths (inner pivot to outer pivot) on each side, which causes the alignment/bump steer issues.

Also reached out to quaife regarding their qsr kits for ae86 and aw11. Both kits use the same exact rack. Only the pinions differ. Both racks are 21.653" long, which is even shorter than an oem ae86 manual rack
