Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

Imo, custom is always best. Its because the setup can be tailored for the car's intended use. As far as off the shelf coilovers go... on paper it sounds like fortune auto and shockworks are the best rounded. Both claim ae86 specific tuning. Shockworks even claims model specific road tuning, and has ...

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion

^exactly. Equal steering from center (lock-to-lock) when using an aw11 rack in an ae86 equates to different overall tie rod lengths (inner pivot to outer pivot) on each side, which causes the alignment/bump steer issues.

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion

Also reached out to quaife regarding their qsr kits for ae86 and aw11. Both kits use the same exact rack. Only the pinions differ. Both racks are 21.653" long, which is even shorter than an oem ae86 manual rack

Re: Bump steer after aw11 manual rack conversion

So an opportunity presented itself to measure an ae86 rack/housing and an aw11 rack/housing. The housing AND rack are different lengths when comparing the ae86, and aw11 parts. I used a measuring tape with the racks both installed on different cars, so the measurements aren't exactly precise, but an...

Re: T3 Lightweight Pulleys

Oem crank pulley does have rubber so there is prob some damper affect. This has been much debated and is prob negligible. Its down to the end user using a solid pulley. Other than that t3 uses and underdriven (larger) water pump pulley than stock, iirc. Good at the track but may not be ideal on stre...

Totta corolla is an asset to the community. What he said is why i wont lower my car much over 1". The rear geometry doesnt respond well to a moderate/agressive lower ride height.

Re: AE86 ride height adjustment

Its because each corner of the car is a different weight. More weight compresses the spring more so the ride height is lower, and the opposite for less weight. Measure the distance between the hub and fenderr at each corner, then adjust the height to compensate. Will take a lot of trial/error. Corne...

Re: WTB - MFactory 5th Gear - T50

'Gear wine' just like the stock 5th gear fyi. Mfactory's first run they cut the teeth like stock, so apparently it wines a bit (just like stock). Second run they added a bevel (or something to that affect) to the teeth to reduce gear noise.

Haha indeed. Even stock rhd lenses are a problem on a lhd car. I got pulled over once - cop said my headlights had a weird glare/flicker affect. Anyone have a llink to the vid where it shows all the chassis reinforcement that was done to tsuchiya's car? After all the work he takes it for a drive and estimates that that his 86 is about as rigid as a stock dc integra haha... cool vid though. Saw it once and could never find again....

Re: T3 camber plates

Interesting. Their camber blocks (gold piece) now have a raised ring-shaped section around the opening for the bearing. The gold piece used to be just flat. I had the old flat style on a pair of their used coilovers that i bought to break down/flip. It had their standard top hats... The way the part...

Re: Fortune Auto Coilovers Review 2017

Just peaked at the fa website again... they used to list a rally suspension for a few select models (not ae86) which had inverted inserts, longer stroke than their street/race/tarmac/etc. coilovers (therefore, lower spring rate to match), and also the strut top mounts weren't metal (plastic or rubbe...

Re: Fortune Auto Coilovers Review 2017

On paper fa seems like great option, especially considering the supposed 'ae86 specific' tuning, digressive valving, and being made in usa. However, if they tuned it for an ae86 why offer 8/6k default rates? They answer is marketing... everyone else does it so they prop figured they'd scare away pot...

Re: Custom front coilovers

Customer service is good and parts are decent, usually. Trust me ive had lot of their stuff. Thing is almost all their stuff has some caveats that could have easily been avoided. Lacking detail. Ive come to expect it. Its the difference between good and great. The stuff works though.
