Re: 4age 20v silvertop pistons locked help!

I think this is a good lesson for people getting engines, be it from a JDM source or even a junk yard or other USDM motor. One thing that I think should always be done while it's still sitting on the shipping palate and hopefully still has a trans on it. Hook up power to the starter and do a compres...

Why not just fix or replace your IACV?
Seems like a ton of work to add more crap to your engine bay to do a job the motor used to do automatically.

You don't need a standalone. It should run just fine on the stock ECU. It's been done before.
I am running a full turbo blacktop on my GZE ECU as well and it runs great.

Re: Are there different exhaust side starters?

My All-Trac's starter is under the intake manifold, for its E series gearbox. So the GZE MR2's starter is under the exhaust side? Seems odd that it would be since they also have an E series. Edit: never mind, I'm not thinking about the GZE's stock SC/intake setup. I suppose all that space is taken ...

The reduction type starter is quite a bit smaller than the conventional starter. I have this type on both my GZE and 4A-GE on the exhaust side. (Both engines out of an AE92 chassis) Thats probably what my BT has too. Can you take some pics from straight on of it mounted on the engine for me so I ca...

Are there different exhaust side starters?

So I just got two exhaust side starters in. They will be used on my engine dyno with my RWD bellhousing and will work fine. Unfortunately I tried to squeeze one in next to my production turbo mani and they occupy quite a bit of the same space. These both have the massive solenoid like my old GZE sta...

I One thing I did discover is this, see pics. Basically my heater pipe (I am running a BT 20v in an AE86) is touching the knock sensor I highly doubt that is any issue. Your knock sensor is designed to detect a very specific frequency and a very high frequency. I would suspect any vibration transla...

Re: BT 4age dyno run 133.5 bhp at the flywheel :-(

Could it possibly be the vvt pulley sticking in the on position? Even though the ecu is turning it off for some reason the pulley is staying on. I find it pretty unlikely but I would try a run with it unplugged just to eliminate the possibility. I don't know the internals of the VVT well enough but...

Well since you want the VVT off above 6k or so you could just unplug it. If it idles normal you know it's disengaged and should remain so in the upper RPM. Honestly the best thing would be to get it back on the dyno and do a run with the VVT unplugged and then one with it wired constant on. I belive...

Re: BT 4age dyno run 133.5 bhp at the flywheel :-(

Since this is a MAP motor something that effects VE will effect AFR. Your VVT should switch off around 6k. If the VVT doesn't switch off it will cause a power dip due to a reduction in VE. That reduction in VE will also cause it to run richer and could cause more of a power dip. That's still where m...

Re: Petition to get replacement bearings for SC12 and SC14

The back cover bearings are 46mm. If we can't get the pulley side bearings but can get gearbox side bearings the next best option may just be to machine the pulley side from 45mm to 46 mm and machine it deeper to accept the wider bearings. Adding depth to the journal with the pulley on it should be ...

Re: BT 4age dyno run 133.5 bhp at the flywheel :-(

You might gain a little but I doubt more than 5 or 10. I suspect something else is wrong. The fact that the VVT causes a bog is a good sign but it doesn't tell you that the whole circuit is functioning or that the ECU is triggering it. Ideally you would want to dyno it with and without as I posted a...

Any cel's? What's the idle rpm when you say, "too high," and after also after it drops? It's normal for the idle to be higher on a cold start; the idle will drop when the engine gets up to operating temp - the iscv controls this function. Definitely check the thermostat to make sure it's ...
