Re: 8.9 CR 4AGZE pistons in my AW11

Raising the static compression ratio on a supercharged engine raises the EFFECTIVE COMPRESSION RATIO as shown on this chart... https://i.imgur.com/uUON5wm.png So @ 10psi of boost, going from 8.0:1 to 8.9:1 has the same effect on the ECR as increasing the boost by around 3psi. As the ECR rises, you g...

Re: 15x7 +40 4x114.3 Slipstreams on 86 GT-S

Good decision. I'm not a fan of spacers either, although I did have a set of 25mm
spacers that I used to make a set of 5-1/2" +27 OEM Toyota rims look better on the
car. Now I just use 6" or 6-1/2" RWD rims and forget about getting them flush :)

Re: 15x7 +40 4x114.3 Slipstreams on 86 GT-S

If you can fit those rims without them binding on the struts you are doing OK :) For OEM style RWD 7" rims on an AE86 the offset would usually be in the positive 5 to 10mm range. You are at 40mm positive, so yeah, the rim is about 30 to 35mm further inboard than ideal. If you use a 30mm spacer ...

Re: Corolla GTS Check Engine Light

JDM version looks to work like this... pretty sure the USDM will be similar... 1. 12V from GAUGE fuse to one side of Check Engine light. 2. 12V from other side of Check Engine light to pin W on 14-pin plug. 3. ECU turns Check Engine light ON by switching pin W to ground via pin E1 on 10-pin plug. So...

Re: Gonna start a build and see where it goes ===> TWINSCREW !!! :-p

Been driving the car and sorting a few things out (summertime down here :D) Supercharger is pushing close on 15 pounds of boost now, and I found the injectors were hitting 100% duty cycle at redline. This is not good as 85% is generally accepted as the maximum if you want the injectors to work as th...

Re: Electric fan ignition wire

If you are doing this, you just need to tap any wire that only has 12V when the key is ON. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f315/Tim65GT/Misc/SpalFan.jpg So the easiaest one is most likely the 12V supply to the coil and igniter. That input is just a signal and doesn't power the fan. Cheers... jonde...

I'm always interested when there is a problem that appears to defy the Laws of Physics :) In a long and colourfull career of kick starting assorted shitbox cars and motorbikes, I have never found it necessary to retard the ignition to get the engine to start. https://media1.tenor.com/images/7398aabfa536909bb3d0184f24989d07/tenor.gif There are apparently two main types of injectors used on the AE86 in the USDM. They are either High Resistance (13.8 Ohms) or Low Resiatance (2.3 Ohms). The Low resistance injectors are used with a resistor pack to prevent t...

Re: 4age Silvertop 20v stalls

Probably why it was blocked before :) Means that your throttles and AFM have been messed with to get idle air into the engine. Result will likely be that your idle will be low when the engine is cold and rise as the engine warms up. Not really a big deal... easier to live with it than to try and fig...

Yes... tend to agree that you are over-thinking this matter. If your oil is not showing any signs of emulisified water (milkshake) under the cap; the cooling system is not losing water, making steam or showing caramel foam under the oil filler, and running like normal; then most likely it is fine. Re: Ignition timing problem

So, lets recap on what a 4AGE 16V engine needs to idle.. 1. FUEL . Needs the main fuel injectors to be squirting, not just the cold start injector. The engine will start and run (usually) on just the cold start injector, but as the CSI stops squirting as asoon as you let go of the key, the engine on...

Also what is this vsv on the 20v? The VSV shown under the ITB's is for the EVAP. On the OEM setup the ECU opens that valve when the engine is above a certain speed, and engine vacuum sucks the fumes out of the cannister and into the ITB's thru those four small hoses that you have looped. When you l...

Ahhhh.... interesting :geek: I looked into dual rate setups a few years back but as I wasn't going to coilovers, I never studied it in depth. coilover up front with swift 3.5k main springs and 6k tenders. How does that work ? I interpret that as a long 3.5kg spring with a short 6kg spring on top. Maybe the throttle opener is staying a bit open? The throttle opener is a vacuum servo, so when the engine is running and making vacuum, the throttle opener should be retracted. It should not be touching the throttle linkage. When the engine is turned off, the opener extends and holds the throttles...

maybe on paper the roots is "bad", but i for one can't c it Compressed air is still compressed air no matter what kind of s/c you use. The only difference is how much noise, power and heat it takes to compress the air. A basic two-lobe Roots blower still gets the job done just fine, and i...
