Re: Need a Toyo Expert...

Yusss... FWD offset, 4 x 100 lug PCD (AE86 needs 4 x 114.3) and the center hole
is too small for an AE86. But great wheels for a FWD Corolla :)

Re: Need help identified this

The ISCV is bolted underneath the intake manifold at the rear of the engine. This might be helpful.... http://files.aeu86.org/manuals/blacktop/bt8-fi.pdf In a FWD installation you don't have much choice... you have to remove the whole intake manifold/throttle assembly to get access to the ISCV. But ...

Re: Idle adjuster.... why is it blocked off?

Remove the throttlebody from the intake manifold and point it towards a light source as if you were trying to look down the throat of the throttlebody. Then open the butterfly slightly. You will see a thin crescent of light appear on the edge of the butterfly. Because of the high contrast you can ea...

Re: 20v 4AGE ST Misfire/miss.

Just googled to see what was inside that "puck" and it uses optical sensors.
So if you have oil getting flung around inside you probably have your answer.
A bit of printed circuit board cleaner spray should clean that up OK.

Re: 20v 4AGE ST Misfire/miss.

If you slowly increase the engine rpm, say in 3rd gear on a level road, can you reach high rpm with little or no misfiring ? That is, does engine load affect the onset of misfiring ? If it does, it would be worth trying a set of plugs one heat range colder. A cheap set of basic NGK's would be fine.....

Re: Idle adjuster.... why is it blocked off?

Ahh... the plot thickens :) I have never struck this before (only starts with the jumper wire inserted), so I am back to guessing what might be happening. Based on the fact that the engine does start and run with the jumper, all the basic fuel and ignition syuff must be working. What I don't know is...

Re: Idle adjuster.... why is it blocked off?

Can't think of any reason why the engine should die because you pull the wire out :? I would suggest that once you have set the TPS according to the details given in my post above, you test the TPS. There are specific resistance ranges that apply when you test between the pins, and you need to verif...

So maybe i set my tps....set my timing in diag. Mode.....then set my idle with the idle screw mentioned in the OP.....and maybe the car won't die on me? Thoughts? That's the way to do it, but there is a certain amount of juggling involved :) Ideally, the throttle stop screw should be set so that th...

It's just a rubber plug to stop people putting cigarette butts and other hard to get out rubbish down the tube (* insert your own butt plug comment here). Re: Need help identified this

The vacuum lines under the throttles do not have any connection with the A/C. I am reasonably certain (but open to correction) that the AE111 does not have a separate A/C idle-up valve. The ECU monitors the idle speed and uses the ISCV to compensate for the extra load when the A/C turns ON. If this ...

Re: 20v 4AGE ST Misfire/miss.

I have never looked at the AEM software, but there should be an enrichment table that adds fuel when the engine is cold and fades out the extra fuel as the water temp rises. It should be zeroed by the time the engine reaches normal operating temp. I would expect that when your engine is fully warmed...

Re: draw thru 4age update and question!

Interesting. I was thinking that with the throttle in front of the turbo, closing the throttle would unload the spinning turbine and allow the turbo to speed up momentarily as the engine consumed the last bit of charge left in the intake ducting. Hence my expecting the engine to flare up before sett...

Re: draw thru 4age update and question!

I like it when someone tries to be different :) Got a pic of your setup? At a guess it could be that there is enough air/fuel mix in the tubing between the turbo and the combustion chambers to cause the engine to flare even after you close the throttle. Probably depends on the size of your turbo. If...

Re: Gonna start a build and see where it goes ===> TWINSCREW !!! :-p

After driving the car for a few months I have discovered an annoying defect with my cunningly modified bypass valve (see post up the page a bit). To work correctly the small vacuum reservoir needs to be charged with the level of vacuum that only happens on high rpm overrun. Normal idle vacuum is not...

Ahh... if they are smart COP's and the ECU has been set to take that into account, then you can cross that off your list. If the fuel pump is on the way out and cannot maintain the correct rail pressure, then it will definitely cause your AFR to lean out as the engine load rises. Assuming that your ...

Interesting. The NGK New Zealand selector recommends 8's for the AE101 and 11's for the AE111. But when I checked on the Japan NGK selector it recommends 11's for both ST and BT :? Only thing I can put that down to is that these engines typically run on higher octane in Japan than we have available ...

Can't say if you have a BHG or not... looks like smoke coming out ? But, you don't have a legitimate overflow tank/coolant reservoir/expansion tank or whatever you want to call it. So you top up your radiator when it is cold, go for a drive to get the engine up to temperature, and the coolant expand...

Re: Throttle stop dampener

The damper should not be holding the throttle arm off the throttle stop. Its job is to cushion the arm when you lift off the throttle so that the throttle plate does not snap closed. Rather, the arm settles gently onto the throttle stop. I haven't looked at one lately, but from memory there is a pin...

Yes, if your cam timing is correct, you will need to carefully extract the dissy
without rotating it, move the gear one tooth counter-clockwise and slide her back
in again. Then just rotate the dissy to correct the timing in the normal way.

Ahhh... maybe the clutch went "over-center" and stays disengaged no matter what. That can happen with a very worn clutch plate... very unusual, but possible. You are going to have to drop the tranny and get the clutch and pressure plate out for a look. Before you do that though, make sure ...
