Re: COP with Adaptronic

This is my wiring diagram for full sequential fuel and ignition on my e440d Adaptronic ECU. It shows how the coils an injectors are "phased" so that the injectors are always firing on a closed intake valve. https://i.imgur.com/XCrY3tb.png This diagram worked for me and I see no reason why ...

Re: Timing on 4AGZE

As far as I know setting the timing on the 4AGZE is pretty much the same as on any 16V 4AGE. Number one cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke; dimples on cam pulleys lining with the marks on the backing plate; notch on the rim of the crank pulley lined with either the pin on the tensioner bolt (...

Also was given a set of these by someone who had changed injectors... https://i.imgur.com/qGSbmW5.jpg They have hardly been used and RC's were a popular upgrade injector back in the day. High impedance (saturated) RC SL9-550 and look to be a straight drop-in install on a 4AGE, so I'm gonna give them...

Re: Gonna start a build and see where it goes ===> TWINSCREW !!! :-p

Took a while, but I finally got the COP wiring completed. I don't like having a lot of unnecessary joins in important wires, so I bought some new DIY kits for the coil clips. You have to assemble the clips and crimp the tiny pins onto the end of the wires. Bought an AMP-TYCO crimping tool from China...

Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead

The starter solenoid on the AE86 gets 12V directly from the keyswitch. The wiring diagram for the 1985 does not show a clutch switch, but if you see one under the dash there should also be a "starter relay" somewhere. This relay only allows 12V from the keyswitch to reach the starter solen...

Hi and welcome to Club4AG :) A Ford rear end portends something a bit different
from the usual 4AGE 20 valve transplant. I'll be following your thread with interest.

The 20V distributor appears to be fitted with one 24 tooth trigger wheel with a single pickup, and a single tooth trigger wheel with two pickups located on opposite sides of the wheel. I don't have a 20V dissy to play with but the pickups appear to be similar to the 16V smallport dissy. So if this i...

In order of length, the leads (OEM) test at 9.33, 8.52, 6.54 and 4.02 kOhms. This
is within the 1000 Ohms/inch of length guideline and so I call the leads good.

Now to figure out a way to test the voltage to the coil with the engine running ?

Re: Gonna start a build and see where it goes ===> TWINSCREW !!! :-p

Yeah, I was surprised that the GZE coils couldn't keep up with my modest tune. They are made for a supercharged engine that runs 8psi stock, and I used them because I thought for sure they could stretch to 15-16psi. Maybe I have bad plug leads... I'll test them tomorrow. Or maybe spraying water-meth...

Re: Gonna start a build and see where it goes ===> TWINSCREW !!! :-p

Discovered a valid reason for changing to COP's. I have been experiencing some "spark blowing out" misfiring at WOT and high rpm's with the GZE coilpacks that I have been using. After doing a bit of research I find that pencil coils are claimed to have a stronger spark, so I bought some us...

Re: 4ag Blue-top Build Advice

Hiya... and congratulations on your first post :) How far you go with this build will depend on the condition of the items you already have, and how much you are prepared to invest in machine work. If the pistons are in good shape, and the block has no damage to the bores, you can bore it out to the...

Re: Cross Plane 4AGE

First, the 4AGZE DLI system will only work with the GZE ECU, coils and igniter. Second, it is a wasted spark system, and therefore cannot accommodate the irregular ignition timing intervals. To make it work you will need four coils with built-in igniters plus an ECU with four ignition and four injec...

Re: Cross Plane 4AGE

Thinking about this for a while, I don't see any reason why the engine parts need to change their basic design/shape/operation.The differences required to convert to crossplane are all to do with the timing of the combustion events. The firing order is changed to 1-3-2-4 and the intervals become irr...
