Re: AE86 Best Suspension Setup

There is a song with lyrics that contains this thought...

If you can't be with the one you love, Love the one you're with

I think that covers the situation regarding suspension pretty well :)

Re: 4age 20v high oil temps

Maybe you can rotate the cooler so that both hoses enter on top or at the
top of one of the vertical sides ?

If the cooler worked before, it should work again :)

Re: 4age 20v high oil temps

This is how I understand an oil cooler with a thermostat works... The thermostat is designed to open and close to regulate the engine oil temperature. When the oil is cold the thermostat is closed. When the temperature gets to around 185degF the thermostat starts to open and allow oil to flow to the...

Hiya... can you please describe how the hoses connect to the oil cooler ? Are they at the bottom on opposite sides ? Like in one side and out the other ? Or is there one connection at the top of the cooler and one at the bottom on the same side ? Just need to make sure air is not getting trapped ins...

Re: Car won’t idle

If your IACV has not been disabled (that is, still has the two water hoses connected) then on cold start the idle should go high (around 2000rpm) and slowly come down to normal idle as the engine warms up. If it does not do that, then the valve is not working. Read about it here... http://club4ag.co...

Re: CloudStrife's AE88

It's a folded sheet steel bracket and the holes will have been punched out. That's why
you get a bit of a taper on th holes and the brackets can be less than perfect. Just file
the holes out a fraction to get rid of the lip and slide that tube in there :-D

Re: CloudStrife's AE88

OK... if I'm reading this right, the long sleeve does go thru the top rear hole, and that is where I believe it should fit. So you tighten that one up and then when you go to fit the short sleeve, it doesn't touch the axle bracket sides . If I remember correctly, when I fitted mine, I had a similar ...

Re: smallport head issue?

There are really not too many possibilities for getting oil into the plug valley. If the cam cover gaskets are still soft and not compressed flat, they should seal OK. And the special rubber faced washers that go under the chrome nuts also have to be soft and not baked hard. Once they go hard they a...

Thanks. Good to know, and falls in line with what the OP found with his BT. This
kind of information is not obvious in the factory manual, but needed if you are
unable to put the engine into diagnostic mode for any reason.

Re: AE86 Silvertop Misfiring Issue

A few fundamentals... 1. The BT 20V is MAP sensored and the ST 20V has a MAF. 2. The BT has a dedicated vacuum line for the MAP sensor, but the ST does not. Therefore, if you have a ST with a BT ECU you need to make sure that the MAP sensor is getting full manifold vacuum by teeing into one of the l...

Re: Weird Radiator Problem

Fans should be controlled by an output from the ecu so the logical first place to look would be the ecu parameter that controls the fans, it is a simple switch control that takes its signal from the water temperature sensor and then tells the fans to switch on or off depending on the temperature se...

Thing is while the HKS cams do help to boost power overall, the 101 Webcams gives the 3500 to 6000 rpm range excellent oomph. Re: New here, with a little problem.

Sounds like the engine is cycling on the fuel cut. When the engine is idling it only takes a tiny bit of throttle opening to let in enough air to raise the engine speed up to 2000rpm. If the IDL switch in the TPS is still hasn't changed, the ECU thinks that the throttle is closed. Closed throttle an...

Re: 4age with 272 cams and carbs

As I understand it, the chokes are used to match the carbs to the airflow of the engine. More airflow means you use a bigger choke. Longer cams allow the engine to suck in more air once they start working, so going to a larger choke (or removing the chokes if you are already close to the maximum siz...

Re: 4age with 272 cams and carbs

The usual effect of installing longer duration cams is to move peak torque/power higher up the engines rpm range. This results in some loss of VE down low and an increase in VE up high. I'm not familiar with the range of mixture adjustments available in the DCOE carbs, but the engine may be over-fue...
