Re: Weird Radiator Problem

Fans should be controlled by an output from the ecu so the logical first place to look would be the ecu parameter that controls the fans, it is a simple switch control that takes its signal from the water temperature sensor and then tells the fans to switch on or off depending on the temperature se...

Re: 4AGZE Conversion

Thing is while the HKS cams do help to boost power overall, the 101 Webcams gives the 3500 to 6000 rpm range excellent oomph. Would those cams work with the factory GZE ECU or do you need to go aftermarket ECU ? Cam specs look good... lots of extra lift without going too long on the duration :) Che...

Re: New here, with a little problem.

Sounds like the engine is cycling on the fuel cut. When the engine is idling it only takes a tiny bit of throttle opening to let in enough air to raise the engine speed up to 2000rpm. If the IDL switch in the TPS is still hasn't changed, the ECU thinks that the throttle is closed. Closed throttle an...

You can start with 10 deg before TDC at idle, that is a safe number. I have asked a question above to see if the 20V BT can have more advance at idle... perhaps 15 deg ?? But until I get an answer from someone who actually has checked with a light on their engine, I don't know the answer. Do you hav...

What I am getting at is... does the timing ...

When you know for sure thst the #1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke, you need to make this mark (notch) on the crank pulley opposite zero on the scale... http://i.fixya.net/uploads/images/25502648-okm0ksuj3f3lm2ubjq0dkjux-5-0.jpg Then, with the mark at zero, you can check that the cam pull...

Re: 4age with 272 cams and carbs

As I understand it, the chokes are used to match the carbs to the airflow of the engine. More airflow means you use a bigger choke. Longer cams allow the engine to suck in more air once they start working, so going to a larger choke (or removing the chokes if you are already close to the maximum siz...

Re: 4age with 272 cams and carbs

The usual effect of installing longer duration cams is to move peak torque/power higher up the engines rpm range. This results in some loss of VE down low and an increase in VE up high. I'm not familiar with the range of mixture adjustments available in the DCOE carbs, but the engine may be over-fue...

Re: Need suspension advice! Figuring out what springs would go with Tokico Illumina shocks

Illumina's were a very popular choice for upgrade shocks in the days before store bought coilover suspension became available. I think OST used them before he went with the HTS full stroke inserts ? General rule of thumb seems to be if you are not lowering more than an inch, full stroke inserts are ...

Re: 500+ hp on stock bluetop cams?

Yusss... at 45psi you would want valve springs with a lot more seat pressure than stock 4AGE springs, and stock cams would handle the stiffer springs better than high lift cams. From the various builds both N.A. and F.I. that have followed over the years, it seems to be the guys who thinks stuff thr...

Re: 500+ hp on stock bluetop cams?

Seems that most modifications that work on N.A. engines work on F.I. engines also. So head work, cams and inlet/exhaust manifolds that improve V.E. will help the engine make the same power with less boost or more power with the same boost. Adding 12.5% more engine capacity will only increase power/t...

Re: Small port 4age with big port cams - Timing & Injector questions

As a DIY tuner I can confirm that it is a long and time consuming process to road tune a programmable ECU.
